So recently a client of ours in the Oldham area of Greater Manchester discovered asbestos insulation board buried on site over an area actuating to 200m2. It was proving difficult, if not impossible, for them to decontaminate in order to progress their public sector construction project.
On top of this, the main client, which was the local council, was falling behind with the scheduled start dates for the new build.
After a phone call to ourselves, we immediately took action and organised a WAC test with a quick 5 day turn around, in order to establish the level and materials of contamination.
As previously thought, the soil was mainly contaminated with asbestos and had to be disposed of carefully. The relevant landfill site was contacted and an arrangement made for delivery.
Asbestos contaminated land excavation, removal and disposal is one of our specialities, and we are equipped and experienced to accommodate any such project. Our drivers and operators are ADR Asbestos Operative trained, medically certified, and face fit tested, and all have an adequate CSCS card.
After being given the order, we had our excavators and tippers deployed to site and working with the asbestos contractor, we had it cleared within 2 days. A total of 400 tonnes was removed – each load carefully loaded and wrapped in polythene in accordance with legislation and good practice, bringing the site in line with the scheduled new build start date.
